Nudge “ NUDGED OUT”. Of Top Gun
The Top Gun Format again proved how exciting Street Stock racing can be with the running of the annual Autopro Street Stock “Top Gun” feature at The Edge Hotel Motel Timmis Speedway Mildura Due to the inclement weather the Saturday programmed meeting was transferred to Sunday afternoon followed by the programmed Sunday meeting. Two meets in one day. The outstanding driver of the day was last years winner Daniel “Nudge” Ameduri. After being top points scorer going into the final “Nudge” accepted the “Top Gun” challenge, as he did last year, agreeing to start the final rear of field for a cash bonus. The four leading drivers were SA 46 Anthony Beare, SA 101 Ben Helgeson, SA 32 Steve Gartner and MDA 11 Robbie Faux. The competition was intense at the front of the field, with the lead swapping between these top 4 drivers. Helgeson and Gartner dropped out, leaving Beare and Faux to have a close battle over 10 or so laps until Faux was forced to retire with mechanical problems then a few laps on Beare retired with a blown tyre. While this was happening Aus 1 Brad McClure had worked his way forward to take the lead which he held for the duration of the race. The interest now focused on “Nudge” Ameduri who also had steadily worked his way forward assisted by other contestants retiring with blown tyres. With 3 laps to complete “Nudge” moved up behind McClure into 2nd position but do what he may, he was unable to pass McClure to reclaim his title of “Top Gun” Mildura. The 3rd car home was local driver Daniel Sylvia, who for the second year running was the highest finishing of the local drivers. “Nudge” promises to return next year from WA to once again attempt to reclaim the title of “Top Gun” in Mildura. Next years “Top Gun” will be run the week after the Australian Street Stock Title to be held in Mildura during March 2011.
